There are places that you don’t need to “show” – just open the gate and just enter in time. Peterhof is just that. Not a city or a museum, but an imperial dream embodied in rock, water and the sun. And every time we go there, I say, today you will see what power looked like in the scenery of paradise.

We leave St. Petersburg by car. On the way, I begin the story – not with dates, but with a plan: why Peter I wanted not just a palace here, but a sea Versailles, and why his descendants made something even more out of this dream.
