Saint Petersburg

The Great Dynasties of Russia, the Benoit Family

Description:

Benois is one of the most famous dynasties in Russia, a Russian noble family of French origin.

In 1794, a young confectioner, Louis-Jules Benois, came to St. Petersburg from the French Revolution. He stayed forever.

The most outstanding achievements of the representatives of the Benoit dynasty belong to the field of architecture and painting. The children were said to be born with a pencil in their hands. In the Benoit House, everyone – not only professional men, but also women – was constantly painting. The streets and squares of St. Petersburg are decorated with laconic buildings of the architect L.N. Benois: The singing chapel, the building of the Russian Museum, the Church of Mary of Lourdes and many wonderful apartment buildings. In 1897-1898, the architect builds his own apartment house on Vasilievsky Island, where his family lives for 125 years, today it is his great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Here was the apartment of Benoit and his workshop.

The building still keeps the memory of the famous family: his own apartment was restored by the descendants of L. N. Benoit, there is a cultural center, which hosts conferences, concerts, tea parties. The amazing atmosphere of old and good Petersburg is preserved with love by the great-granddaughter of L.N. Benois Anastasia Olegovna.
