1st Volkovsky Bridge

Volkovsky Prospekt 16 (Middle Street), St. Petersburg, 192102

Description:

The 1st Volkovsky Bridge is located in the Frunze district of St. Petersburg. This is a pedestrian bridge over the Volkovka River. Initially, it was supposed to connect the village with the Volkovo cemetery.

The length of the bridge is 27.5 meters, the width is 2.1 meters. The name of the village was automatically transferred to the name of the bridge. The bridge itself is metal on welded beams, on which slabs are laid and covered with sand asphalt. Built in the early 19th century, the bridge was wooden, and only in Soviet times it was replaced by a bridge with metal beams. The architect of the new project was Feldman.

Why the first? In the middle of the 20th century, it was decided to number all unnamed bridges across the Volkovka against the current. So he became the First Wolf. The modern type of design is metal fences made of tubular rods, concrete staircases.

You can get there by public transport: bus 54, metro 5, tram 25 to Volkovsky Prospekt.
