1st Red Army Street
Description:
The 1st Red Army Street is located in the Admiralty District of St. Petersburg. It runs from Moscow Avenue to Izmailovsky Prospect. Since the middle of the XVIII century, the street has changed several names. For a long time it was the street of the 1st Company, then it was renamed Izmailovskaya as it served for the location of the 1st company of the Izmailovsky regiment of the Life Guards. It received its present name on October 6, 1923, in honor of the Red Army in order to establish Soviet terminology and in contrast to the former name.
Among the most famous sights on the street are the Catholic Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Baltic State Technical University "Voenmeh". V.I. Lenin visited the house No. 22 in 1893, as evidenced by the memorial plaque on the facade.
