19th Kamennoostrovsky Bridge

St. Petersburg, Russia

Description:

On the stone island there is a government residence and a quiet recreation park. In addition, there are a lot of bridges on the island, including the 19th Kamennoostrovsky Bridge, which runs through Bolshaya Nevka. The Bolshoi Nevka Canal was deepened and cleaned in the early XX century, because of which many bridges of Stone Island were dismantled. Big Nevka, being the extreme and northern arm of the Neva, is removed from the channel 500 meters below the Liteiny Bridge, separating the Petrograd and Vyborg sides. The river flows into the Neva Bay below Yelagin Island with its arrow, and on the left bank such islands as Petrograd, Stone, Yelagin and Aptekarsky. The length of the Big Nevka is 7.9 km, the width is 50-360 m, the depth is up to 8.3 meters. On the right bank, the Black River flows into the Bolshoi Nevka, and the Karpovka River departs from the left, then Malaya Nevka and Srednaya Nevka flow. Since 1790, the construction of a series of wooden bridges was carried out on the Stone Island, serving pedestrians and transport. The design of the 19th Kamennoostrovsky Bridge, like many other first bridges of the Stone Wasp, is a 5-pass beam bridge with a relative length of 20 meters. After the 19th Kamennoostrovsky bridge was dismantled, it was replaced by a new one designed by engineer Andreevsky P.V. The current bridge is made of railway piles, a construction of three spans of rolling beams.
