2nd Engineering Bridge

St. Petersburg, Russia

Description:

The 2nd Engineering Bridge passes through the now-buried Voskresensky Canal in St. Petersburg. It is located on the right embankment of the Fontanka River near the Mikhailovsky Castle, which is also called the Engineering Castle. From here the bridge got its modern name. It was built in 1824-1826 by engineers P. P. Bazin and E. K. Clapeyron. This is an oblique flat vault and bricks and plates, on the facades of which there are granite arches. The lattice of the bridge and lanterns are decorated with bundles of crossed copies and peak. In 2006, the bridge was renovated after severe damage from a road accident. Three sections of the bridge have been replaced, and all grilles are covered with special protective paint.
