Alexander Chapel

pos. Alexandrovskaya, Volkhonskoe highway, 45, Pushkin district, St. Petersburg

Description:

In 1868, a chapel with the same name was erected at the Alexandrovskaya railway station. The author of her project was Vidov Alexander Fomich. The Alexander Chapel was built after the attack on Emperor Alexander II in 1867 in Paris. The illuminator of the chapel was the spiritual mentor of the emperor Protopresbyter and theologian Vasily Borisovich Bazhanov.

The walls of the chapel were made of white stone, and the roof had the appearance of a tent dome. In the middle of the 20th century, the chapel was used as a warehouse, and later completely dismantled. Currently, only a stone pedestal remains from the chapel.

You can get to the memorable place by metro to Alexandrovskaya station or by Volkhonskoe highway, past Pulkovo airport and the southern cemetery.
