Anichkov Bridge

fontanka River embankment, 38, lit. A, St. Petersburg, 191025

Description:

Anichkov Bridge is the pride of St. Petersburg. It is listed in all guidebooks and is mandatory for tourists to visit.

Peter Karlovich Klodt is the author of the famous sculptural group “Taming a Horse by a Man”, which adorns the bridge. It took Claudt more than 20 years to create the sculptures. The idea of the author was that the viewer, moving from one sculpture to another, “read” the plot: from the beginning of the taming of the horse to the complete submission of the horse by man. A total of 4 sculptures were installed.

Similar horses can also be seen in Berlin: Nicholas I gave copies to European monarchs.

Anichkov Bridge connects two islands - Spassky and Nameless. Focus on Nevsky Prospect, the embankment of the Fontanka River. The bridge is located 650 meters from the metro station "Gostiny Dvor", if you go along Nevsky Prospekt from the Bridge towards the Admiralty.
