Saint Petersburg

Baroque street

St. Petersburg, Russia

Description:

Baroque street is located in the Petrograd district of St. Petersburg. It runs from Big Zelenina Street to Professor Popov Street. There are several versions of the origin of the name. The official is confirmed in the book “Petersburg in the names of streets”, which indicates that in this part of the city the whole area was built up with Baroque buildings. Another unofficial version is based on the fact that once there was a popular drinking establishment "Barka". But it has nothing to do with Baroque. The right thing to do is to stress "a."

In 1911, the street was extended to the Sand Embankment, today the Leningrad Palace of Youth is located on this place. The name of the street was called the bridge over the river Karpovka. The Baroque Bridge was built in 1914. Until 2003, this street was a unique tram park No6 named after A.K. Skorokhodov, but in 2005 its entire territory was sold for residential development. Today there is no tram route on Baroque, all rails are dismantled.
