Griffin Tower
Description:
St. Petersburg “Griffin Tower”, also known as “Digital Tower” and “Tower of Optimists”, is the remaining part of the old boiler house brickwork pipe, located on the seventh line of Vasilievsky Island, 16-18.
The eleven-meter landmark with a diameter of about two meters has long been a decoration of the courtyard belonging to the oldest pharmacy in St. Petersburg, and is now a regionally significant cultural heritage site.
The Griffin Tower, built in 1730 by architect Wilhelm Pehl and originally used to remove polluted air from the pharmacy laboratory, is today the main place for making wishes. The brick building without windows and doors in the Quarter of Pharmacists borders with the Academic and Dnipro lanes.
