Big Zelenina Street

St. Petersburg, Russia

Description:

Big Zelenina Street is located between the Small Avenue of the Petrograd side and the embankment of Admiral Lazarev in St. Petersburg. It was laid in 1710 as the main road from the Peter and Paul Fortress to the powder factory. Initially, both the road and the plant itself were called Greens from the word “potion”, which meant gunpowder. The plant was closed in 1801, and the road began to lead to the country Krestovsky Island. The name of the Green has survived, but has undergone changes to Zelenina.

Near the street there is also Deaf Zelenina Street and Small Zelenina Street, unrelated to Big Zelenina. Until 2007, there were several tram routes linking Fisherman’s Street, Chkalovskiy Prospekt, Barochnaya Street and Big Krestovsky Bridge. Of the attractions, it is worth noting the house No. 2, in which the apartment house of A. S. Katzenelson was once located. This is a beautiful old six-storey building, the first floor of which is designed to accommodate shops and shops. On the third and fifth floors there are bay windows, ending with small balconies with openwork grilles. In the center of the house, on the roof, there is a small tower with a pediment.
