Great Cossack Lane

Big Cossack Lane, Admiralty District, St. Petersburg

Description:

Big Cossack in the city appeared in the middle of the XVIII century. From the first days, the street was given the name Cossack lane, since the Don Cossack compound worked there. A little later, in 1821, it was renamed Krivoy Lane. This was influenced by the configuration of the city street. But innovations did not take root in the people, and they began to call the lane the 1st Cossack or Cossack Kriva.

The street received its current name closer to the XX century. Although in 1925 it was again renamed into Ilyich lane. The name in honor of Lenin lasted until 1993.

Of the attractions in the Great Cossack Lane are the Cossack Baths, the Museum "Raznochinny Petersburg" and the house in which Lenin lived.
