The Grand Stable Bridge

Central district, city of St. Petersburg

Description:

The bridge is so named from the building of the Main Imperial stables, which were located in house No. 44, on the left bank of the Moika. It was designed by Hermann van Boles in 1753. Initially, the bridge was wooden, drawable and then fashionably painted under stone. In 1828 it was made cast-iron, arc-shaped. The restructuring project was developed by engineers V.K. Tretter, V.I. Gest and E.A. Adamov. Especially for the construction of the bridge, tubings were developed, which in the end were not useful.

The appearance of the bridge is also made of cast iron. There are lampposts on the sides. They look like small floor lamps that are installed on huge parapets.

In 1935 the bridge was slightly renovated. They were strengthened, and on top of the cast iron laid reinforced concrete vault. After 14 years, restoration work touched the lanterns.

As for attractions, next to the bridge there is an apartment-museum of A.S. Pushkin.
