Grand Petrovsky Bridge

St. Petersburg, Russia

Description:

Big Petrovsky Bridge passes through Malaya Nevka between Savina St. on Petrovsky Island and Krestovsky Island, South Road. Studying archival data, there are references to the wooden bridge of 1838, next to which there was a guard post. Nearby, on the Chukhonka River stood several houses for soldiers guarding the facility. The bridge had a draw span and was repaired several times, and in 1947 it was replaced by another one, with metal and beam span buildings. Approximately in the center of the bridge there is a small island on both sides.

In 1993, ice destroyed part of the bridge structure, as a result of which traffic on the bridge was blocked. Soon the reconstruction and restoration of spans of the bridge resumed traffic on it, and pedestrian traffic was open. The construction of the stadium on Krestovsky Island accelerated the development of the transport system in the area and led to the replacement of the Big Petrovsky Bridge in 2010. The new bridge was built undiluted, beamed and metal on the 4th lane and had a bicycle lane. It should be noted that in 1916 under the Great Petrovsky Bridge under the ice was dropped the body of Grigory Rasputin, this bridge is famous. Here was filmed a scene from the film “Mr. Designer”, where the hero was crushed by transport on this bridge.
