at the intersection of Petrovsky Embankment and Kamennostrovsky Prospect.

Description:

On October 1, 1703, by decree of Peter I, the construction of the Holy Trinity Chapel, the first Orthodox church, began. The church included a chapel, where there was a venerated image of Christ the Savior.

The Holy Trinity Chapel was burned many times, but rebuilt anew. The church was one of the symbols of the city, it meant a lot to St. Petersburg. It was in second place after St. Isaac’s Cathedral. On August 15, 1933, it was demolished by the Soviet government.

Now the church is not in its former place, but in the south-western corner of the Trinity Square. On May 8, 2002, Metropolitan Vladimir of St. Petersburg and Ladoga with the clergy of the diocese consecrated the beginning of the construction of the monument. On May 23, 2003, on the 300th anniversary of the city, the chapel-monument was solemnly consecrated by the same metropolitan.
