Sheremetev Palace

nab. Fontanki, 34, St. Petersburg

Description:

Sheremetev Palace is located in the heart of St. Petersburg. Its external architecture, unique grille, beautiful outbuildings immediately attract the attention of tourists.

Field Marshal Boris Sheremetev in 1712 received a gift from Peter the First plot of land on the left bank of the Fontanka.

Occupied with state affairs, Sheremetev built a small mansion. The Sheremetev family loved music and theater. They created their own theater troupe of their serfs and staged theatrical performances. In the 40s of the 18th century, the building underwent changes - the second floor and side wings were completed. The front entrance is decorated with expensive stucco. The cast-iron fence with golden eagles (the architect of Corsini) is fortified on a granite base. On the arch of the gate there is a family coat of arms of the family of gold.

Now in the building there is a Museum of Theatre and Musical Art. Here you can see a collection of musical instruments collected by several generations of the family.

You can get by metro to the station "Gostiny Dvor", and then walk along the Fontanka embankment.
