Hermitage Bridge

St. Petersburg, Russia

Description:

The Hermitage Bridge passes through the Winter Groove near the State Hermitage Museum, the bridge was built immediately after the construction of the granite embankments of the Neva River from 1763 to 1766. It is among the oldest bridge buildings in St. Petersburg and combines very successfully with the architecture and landscape surrounding it. The protrusions of the parapets, the embankment walls and the contours of the bridge smoothly pass to all the bridges in the area and barely merge into the overall architecture of the area, buildings, walls and fences.

In 1720 there was a lifting wooden Winter Palace Bridge, which was rebuilt many times, and in 1763 a new Hermitage Bridge was built in its place.

Beautiful stone bridge with granite cladding and to this day pleases residents and guests of the city with its magnificent view. Strictness and simple forms were transformed by a new and fresh artistic creation, which was the Hermitage Bridge at the time of its construction. The cobblestone pavement was changed first to wooden, and later to asphalt.
