Fountain-joke "Waterway"
Description:
If you want to see the fountain "Water Road" in the Park of Peterhof (a suburb of St. Petersburg), then prepare in advance. The thing is, it's a joke fountain. At the court of Peter I, it was called the “Wet Road” and was considered the most cruel of the emperor’s water jokes (according to legend, the idea belongs to Peter personally).
Part of the Monplaisier Alley suddenly for walkers covered with a water arch of 300 jets - and goodbye to exquisite hairstyles and outfits. This sense of humor did not rule for a long time, and in the 18th century the fountain ceased to be entertained.
In 2001, the "Water Road" was restored and is now included strictly on schedule 3 times a day for 1 minute. If you see a group of tourists with umbrellas or in raincoats near the Roman fountains, either join (if you are prepared) or go to a safe distance.
