Gas street
Description:
Gas street is located in the Petrograd district of St. Petersburg. It runs from Pudozhskaya Street to the embankment of the Karpovka River. The origin of the name of the street is associated with the nearby gas plant. Until 1880, there were no attempts to install gas lighting on the streets of St. Petersburg. At the beginning of the XX century, the English Joint Stock Company built a gas plant for the Petrograd and Vyborg sides. The factory no longer exists. Most of its territory is occupied by the stadium "Metrostroy". Nearby is the enterprise "Stilcon" on the territory of which the circular gasholder of the XIX century rebuilt inside has been preserved.
