St. Petersburg, Russia

Description:

Kazan Bridge is a connecting bridge between the Spassky and Kazan Islands, passes through the Griboyedov Canal, is located in the Central district of St. Petersburg on the axis of the Nevsky Prospect.

The nearest metro station is Gostiny Dvor from the Griboyedov Canal. From 1766 to 1830, the bridge had another name - Christmas, and after 1923 - Plekhanov. Due to its close location to the Kazan Cathedral, in 1940 the bridge was called Kazansky.

Engineers of the Kazan Bridge during its construction in XVIII made Nazimov and Golenishchev-Kutuzov, they created a project for the construction of a new bridge on the site of the old Christmas wooden bridge, which was demolished when facing the walls of the embankment with granite. However, in 1805-1806 the bridge was expanded under the direction of the architect Rusk.

In 1999-2002, the bridge was subject to restoration, and in 2007-2008, the embankment of the Griboyedov Canal was completely repaired from the Kazan and to the Bank Bridges. Kazansky is recognized as the widest, but the lowest bridge of St. Petersburg, under which it is impossible to swim. Not far from the bridge is the House of Books, a famous place in St. Petersburg.
