The bell tower of the Nikolsky Sea Cathedral
Nikolskaya Square, 1 building 3, St. Petersburg, Russia
Description:
The bell tower of the Nikolsky Sea Cathedral, located on the banks of the Kryukov Canal, is an integral part of the cathedral. In its form, it represents a four-tiered building completed with a high spire.
It was built before the St. Nicholas Cathedral itself - in 1758 according to the project of Chevakinsky. Chevakinsky is a student of the famous Rastrelli, who designed a 140-meter five-tier bell tower of the Smolny Cathedral. His student was very impressed with the project, which unfortunately did not come to life, and decided to build something similar. Of course, its bell tower is much lower and less grandiose than the plan of the great teacher, but in its architecture it is a beautiful and elegant bell tower, directed upwards.
