Red Guard Bridge

nab. Kryukova Canal, St. Petersburg

Description:

Krasnogvardeysky Bridge in the Admiralty district of St. Petersburg is one of the bridges connecting the Kazan and Spassky Islands. The bridge is thrown over the Griboyedov Canal at its merger with the Kryukov Canal. Krasnogvardeysky, Pikalov and Staro-Nikolsky bridges form a single ensemble of architecture.

To the metro station "Sadovaya" more than a kilometer. In memory of the Petrograd Red Guard in 1917, the bridge was called Krasnogvardeysky.

In 1956-1957, the project of engineer Kulikov and architects Areshev and Vasilkovsky for the construction of a single-span bridge was created. The bridge was originally intended for the transfer of heating pipes. At both ends of the bridge are four granite obelisks and lampposts. In walking distance from the Krasnogvardeysky bridge you can find the Nikolsky market and visit the Nikolsky Cathedral. The three bridges themselves: Krasnogvardeysky, Pikalov and Staro-Nikolsky are architectural monuments.
