Annunciation Garden in the city of St. Petersburg
d St. Petersburg, Small Prospect, M. Vasileostrovsky
Description:
The Church of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos is considered the earliest sight of Peter. It appeared at the end of the XVIII century. In 1738, a city cemetery appeared around the church, along the perimeter of which was fenced with a simple metal fence. At the entrance, a beautiful carved gate and a gate were installed. The fence is still there.
The Annunciation Garden was founded in 1926. The city authorities decided to make a pedestrian area around the church for recreation. In a matter of time, the cemetery was demolished, and in its place young trees and shrubs were planted, flowerbeds were made. Between the trees arranged asphalt paths and comfortable gazebos.
In 2008, a restoration took place in the Annunciation Garden. Cut down sick and dry trees, repaired the fence, laid new paths and installed comfortable benches.
