SPbU Botanical Garden in St. Petersburg

st. Petersburg, University Embankment, 7/9

Description:

The history of the Botanical Garden begins in the early XIX century. The initiator of its creation was the botanist A.N. Beketov. He spent his best years collecting rare plants from all over the world. He dreamed of having the biggest collection.

In 1935, the Botanical Garden received the status of a monument of history and culture, which is under state protection. St. Petersburg greenhouses had to go through a lot in their entire history. What is worth only the Second World War. Then the staff of the garden had to work at their own risk to the last. They miraculously managed to save pots of plants during the blockade. Thanks to them, first of all, the Botanical Garden today has the richest collection of flora. There you can see subtropical plants, decorative perennial and annual plants, tropical ferns, conifers, cacti and many others. In total, more than 4,500 species of plants are represented in the Botanical Garden.
