Description:

The Museum-Reserve "Tsarskoye Selo" is an outstanding example of world architecture and landscape art. Outstanding architects, sculptors and artists of the 18-20th century embodied the plans and wishes of the royal court.

The center of the museum-reserve is the Catherine Palace, made by F.B. Rastrelli in the style of Russian Baroque. The Grand Hall of the Palace and a number of state halls, among which the world-famous "Amber Room" are admired.

Another example of world architecture is the Alexander Palace, made in the style of classicism. The rooms of Emperor Nicholas II and his wife Alexandra Fedorovna are decorated in Art Nouveau style.

An integral part of the museum-reserve "Tsarskoye Selo" are its parks - Catherine and Alexandrovsky with a total area of 300 hectares. In the parks of Pushkin there are more than 100 architectural structures - palaces, pavilions, bridges, marble monuments imitating Gothic, Turkish, Chinese architecture.

The territory where the "Tsarskoye Selo" is located has long been part of the Old Russian state under the name "Izhora Land of Lord Veliky Novgorod". In the 17th century it was captured by the Swedes, and in the reign of Emperor Peter the Great it was returned to Russia.
