Aviators Park in the city of St. Petersburg
st. Petersburg, street. Kuznetsov D.5
Description:
Aviators Park is located in the Moscow district of St. Petersburg near the metro station "Victory Park".
It was laid down in 1966 on the territory previously occupied by the Corps airfield. Built back in 1910, Corpus Airfield was one of the first in Russia, and it was called so because of the Corpus Highway passing in the area. In the 1920s, it was the main airfield of Leningrad: pilots were trained on it, and also tested aircraft and airships.
The territory of the park is planted mainly with deciduous trees, among which there is a network of winding paths and unusual ponds. In the center of this pond on a small island in 1968, a monument dedicated to the exploits of Soviet pilots was opened - this is a real MiG-19 fighter aircraft installed on a concrete base.
