Forestry Academy Park in St. Petersburg
st. Petersburg, Institute Per., 5
Description:
Park at the Forestry Academy in St. Petersburg - the area is quite remarkable. In the early 19th century, the so-called “English farm” of Alexander Davidson was located on this place, which was later replaced by the Forest Institute, which moved to the city from the then Tsarsky Selo.
The area of almost untouched forest for some time was used only for students. But gradually it began to be ennobled and acquire the features of a landscaped park with paths, greenhouses and plant nurseries. Since 1830, these works were conducted under the direction of the English gardener Joseph Bush.
Unfortunately, the further expansion of the city and the circumstances surrounding the Forest Institute led to the park shrinking in the grounds and losing some of its charm. Nowadays it is not without originality old park with its charm. There are also some historical details. For example, a stone stele dedicated to the tragic duel of the early 19th century. Or a small obelisk dedicated to the fallen during the October Revolution.
