300th Anniversary Park of St. Petersburg
st. Petersburg, Primorsky Prospect, 74
Description:
The 300th Anniversary Park of St. Petersburg is the youngest park in the city. It was founded in 1995 to perpetuate the anniversary date from the founding of St. Petersburg. Previously, unusable land was located in its place, which was periodically flooded. By 2003, the territory of the park was landscaped: the soil was filled, the shore was strengthened, lawns were broken and a fence was installed.
The central objects of the park are a swimming pool and fountains, as well as a column of granite, stylized as a lighthouse, 22 meters high. To this composition leads the central alley. The park has three hundred trees of valuable species, three hundred ornamental apple trees (a gift from Helsinki), seventy lip trees (from a German bank), as well as three hundred trees and shrubs (from sister cities of St. Petersburg, heads of subjects of the Russian Federation and honored guests).
On March 28, 2012, a monument to the revolutionary and national hero of the Republic of Venezuela Francisco Miranda was erected in the park, donated to St. Petersburg by the President of Venezuela.
Folk festivities are organized on the territory of the park for various holidays, for example, on Maslenitsa. Also particularly popular is the event to launch sky lanterns, first held in 2011.
