st. Petersburg, Vologdina St., 1A

Description:

Shuvalovsky Park is located in the village of Pargolovo in the north of St. Petersburg. It is named after the counts Shuvalov, who owned the local lands.

In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the park is actively developing, at this point the Grand and Small Palaces, stables, outbuildings are being built here. In the Grand Shuvalov Palace is now the All-Russian Research Institute of High Frequency Currents named after V.P. Vologdin.

In the 1830s, the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and the crypt were erected to perpetuate the memory of P.A. Shuvalov.

In the park made a mound hill sixty meters high, called "Parnassus". It was created by serfs of the counts of Shuvalov, and the name comes from ancient Greek mythology, which says that Mount Parnassus was a place where the gods live. Climbing to the top of this hill you can now see the most beautiful panorama of the northern part of the city, and in sunny weather you will see the domes of the cathedrals of the central part. In winter, they go here to ski, cheesecake and sleigh, and in summer for bike rides.

At the foot of Parnassus, two ponds were dug, named for their outlines “Napoleon’s Cap” and “Napoleon’s Shirt.”
