Small Garden Street
Description:
Ma'laya Sado'vaya Street is a pedestrian street in the center of St. Petersburg. Passes between the Italian street (at Manezhnaya Square) and Nevsky Prospekt opposite the Catherine Park with a monument to Catherine II (sculptors M. O. Mikeshin, M. A. Chizhov, architects V. A. Schroeter, D. I. Grimm). On the other hand, the perspective of Malaya Sadovaya is closed by the portico of the stables (Vincenzo Brenna, 1798-1800, K. I. Rossi, 1823-1824). The view of the masterpiece of two wonderful architects, as well as the ensembles of Small Garden Street and Manege Square, are distorted by the building that hangs over the portico, built in the 2000s.
In 1999, Small Garden was turned into a pedestrian zone. The street was paved with tiles, removing the division into sidewalks and pavement, a fountain was built - a cascade "Rotating ball", benches were put. Later, small sculptures began to appear on the street: in the courtyard of one of the houses - Gavryush's dog (1999, sculptor V. A. Sivakov), on the eaves on both sides of the street, the cat Elisei and the cat Vasilis took the place (2000, the idea of Sergey Lebedev, the architect - Larisa Domracheva), at the bottom - a photographer with a bulldog (2003), architect L. V. Domracheva, sculptor B. A. Petrov).
