The Moscow Triumphal Gate
Description:
The subject of sculptural property in St. Petersburg is the Moscow Triumphal Gate. Built in honor of the victory of Russia over Turkey in the battles of 1828-1829.
The monumental structure is about 40 meters wide and at least 24 meters long, but the large volume does not deprive the gate of elegance and grandeur. At the top are the winning trophies and figures with the provincial coats of arms of the Russian Empire. The phrase on the sculpture was invented by the emperor. The inscription reads about the glory and memory of Russian troops in the period from 1826 to 1831.
To see the triumphal gate, you should drive to the Moscow Gate metro station. The attraction is located on the square next to the exit from the metro.
