Belinsky Bridge
Belinsky Bridge, nab. Fontanka Rivers, St. Petersburg, Russia
Description:
In 1733, a bridge of the same name was built on Belinskaya Street, which became the first structure passing through the Fontanka River. The bridge was made of wood and resembled a crossing on pile bases in the form of an arched bridge. At that time, the building was called Simeonovsky.
Over time, the bridge supports were made of stonework and lined with granite. Side spans are covered with arches of stone. In the middle, the span is made of wood and covered with a lifting span structure. The bridge is decorated with granite towers with lifting mechanisms. The railings are forged and metal.
In 1859, the middle span became a stone vault, and the towers of granite were removed. In 1890, it was decided to expand the carriageway, so the sidewalks of the bridge were put on consoles.
On October 6, 1923, the building was renamed and named Belinsky Bridge. In 1999 the facility was renovated. The bridge is 56 meters long and 19.06 meters wide.
