Lomonosov Bridge

lomonosov str., 7, Fontanka embankment, 66 St. Petersburg, Russia

Description:

The Lomonosov Bridge across the Fontanka River is one of the ancient stone bridges designed by French engineer Jean Rodolfe Perronet. This project is distinguished by the presence of stone (granite) towers in the Doric style, which previously concealed the function of lifting mechanisms with metal chains. Lomonosov Bridge is a cultural monument of the architectural heritage of the Catherine era, but the current name was received in 1948 from the square of the same name, on which a monument to the great Russian scientist is installed.

In the 19th century there was the estate of Count General G.P. Chernyshev, therefore the former name was in his honor - Chernyshev Bridge. From here there is a majestic view of the Trinity Cathedral. The easiest way to get to the Lomonosov Bridge is from the center, passing along the street of the Architect Rossi behind the Alexandria Theatre.
