Saint Petersburg

Nevsky factory

Description:

The factory was founded in the mid-19th century and by the time of the October Revolution there were about 3,000 workers. We can say that this is where the revolution began. It was here that Vladimir Lenin wrote his first leaflet, and Nadezhda Krupskaya worked as a Sunday school teacher for the workers of this plant.

In 1925, at the expense of the workers of the same plant, the first monument to Lenin in the country was created. The work was entrusted to the sculptor Matvei Kharlamov, who twice saw the leader alive and created a realistic image of him.

The following year the monument was erected. At that time it was in the interior of the plant, and now it is clearly visible. The fact that this is the first monument to Lenin and saved it from dismantling in the 1990s, so it has survived to this day.
