Lower Swan Bridge

Garden Street, E. 2

Description:

Lower Lebyazhy Bridge is located where the Lebyazhya groove flows into the Moika, thereby connecting the Summer Garden with the 1st Admiralty Island. Initially, the bridge was called the 1st Tsaritsynsky, because near the bridge is the Champ de Mars, which was previously called the Tsaritsyn meadow. Initially, the bridge was a beam system on stilts.

In 1835. They replaced the existing bridge with a single-span, stone, arched one with a brick vault and supports from mud masonry. Engineers P.P. Basen and A.D. Gotman worked on the project. Work was also carried out on the granite facing of the facades and supports of the bridge. But, unfortunately, the structure was not durable, and already in 1846. The brick vault began to crumble. The urgent reconstruction of the bridge was carried out in 1847. But the new restructuring was defective, and by 1924. The bridge had to be closed.

In the middle of 1925, the next repair of the bridge took place under the leadership of engineers B.D. Vasiliev and A.L. Salarev. The bridge became with reinforced concrete vault, the foundations of the bridge and railing remained unchanged, the appearance of the bridge also did not change. The lattice of the bridge is cast-iron, with a strict ornament.
