Ernest Igel's mansion
Description:
In 1894, the French merchant Ernest Iguel purchased a plot of land on the Petrograd side along with a wooden house and a greenhouse.
Here he opened a brilliant restaurant of French cuisine, calling it uncomplicated - "Ernest". Three years later, the house was rebuilt in stone and St. Petersburg received another characteristic example of architectural eclecticism. The estate consisted of a complex of buildings in the style of Louis XVI. It has survived to this day. After the revolution, the house was occupied by the House of Proletarian Culture, the district council and other officials. The facade of the old mansion is in an emergency condition, but the interiors are well preserved.
