Monument to A. Sakharov
Description:
In 2003, the first monument in Russia to one of the greatest humanists Andrei Sakharov was opened in St. Petersburg. The monument is located on Vasilievsky Island, between the main building of St. Petersburg University and the Library of the Academy of Sciences, on the square, which was also named after Sakharov. It is symbolic that on one straight line there are three St. Petersburg monuments - Peter I on the Decembrist Square, Lomonosov on the Mendeleev line and Sakharov on Sakharov Square. Mounted on a boulder, a bronze sculpture 3.5 meters high is a gift to the city of sculptor Levon Lazarev and individuals involved in financing the project.
