Monument-bust of Peter I

Description:

Monument to Peter I (2000, sculptor V. A. Petrov, architect V. S. Vasilevsky) is a monument to the founder of the city.

The history of the city begins with a visit by Peter I on September 20, 1714 of the river Sisters. The emperor ordered to build a summer palace on the shore of the Gulf of Finland, and a garden to be built nearby. The palace was built in 1719-1724 from locally produced bricks (later it would have been dismantled in 1781). Near this palace planted about 2000 young oaks. A few years later, they decided to build a dam on the Sestre River. The dam was used for a different purpose, as the long Northern War caused the need for increased production of weapons. In June 1721, the construction of an arms factory began.
