Monument to Paul I
Garden Street, 2, St. Petersburg, 191023
Description:
In St. Petersburg, in the courtyard of the Mikhailovsky Castle, stands a bronze sculpture of Emperor Paul I. In Mikhailovsky Castle, the emperor lived only 40 days (he was killed by his associates in this castle).
The monument was erected on May 28, 2003 (related to the 300th anniversary of the city). The Emperor was a Master of the Order of Malta and this is reflected in the image of the Maltese cross on his chest. Paul I sits on a throne with a crown on his head and holds symbols of power in his hands. A lonely figure in the middle of a huge courtyard against the backdrop of a majestic palace evokes thoughts of the tragic fate of the emperor.
Mikhailovsky Castle is located 10-15 minutes walk from the metro station "Gostiny Dvor" (Nevsky Prospekt).
