Monument to Peter I in Peterhof
Peterhof, State Museum-Reserve "Peterhof", Lower Park
Description:
The monument to the great Russian reformer Peter I was erected in Peterhof in the 19th century, in 1884. Interestingly, the monument itself was created not in Russia, but in Paris. It was cast in the capital of France in bronze. The sculptors wanted to portray Peter as a strong and serious man. He's big, looks straight and doesn't look away.
In 1950, a copy of Peter I was created. The original was lost because it was stolen by the Nazis during the war. Now it stands in a prominent place in Peterhof. There are always many adults and children around him.
