st. Petersburg, Kirov Square, metro "Narva"
Description:
Monument to S.M. Kirov, a party and political figure, was erected in 1938 in the center of Kirov Square.
In 1935, after the murder of Kirov, a competition was announced among sculptors to create a monument. 200 people competed for the right to be an author. The winners were N.V. Tomsky and N.A. Trotsky. The work was completed on December 6, 1938.
Kirov is depicted in full growth, in a fluttering coat, with his right hand raised. The monument is a monument with a height of 15.5 meters against the background of a hostel for workers of the Kirov plant. The figure has a height of about 8 meters on a granite pedestal measuring 3.4 x 3 meters, along the perimeter of which there are bas-reliefs dedicated to the events of the civil war and Soviet themes. On one of the bas-reliefs there is a board with a quote.
The monument is a kind of reflection of the Soviet era, when strong and strong-willed personalities were in honor.
