Pecals Bridge
nab. Kryukova Canal, St. Petersburg
Description:
Pikalov Bridge is located in St. Petersburg and connects two islands: Kolomensky and Pokrovsky, located on the Griboyedov Canal. The bridge is part of a triple architectural ensemble, like the Krasnogvardeysky and Staro-Nikolsky bridges.
To the metro station "Sadovaya" distance is more than a kilometer. Pikalov is the name of the construction contractor, after whom the bridge was named. Unfortunately, information about the engineers and architects of this project is lost. However, the wooden bridge was built in 1783-1785 in three spans, the supports were lined with granite, and the middle span - draw. The length of the bridge was 23.15 meters, and its width was 10.58 meters. The Pikalov Bridge has changed slightly since its construction, unlike its associates. The bridge is historically significant and is an indicator of the bridge building art of the XVIII century. Lantern-obelisks made of granite on curly pedestals with gilded balls are installed outside the spans on their side rounds. Walking along the bridge, you can see the facade of the Nikolsky sea cathedral.
