Saint Petersburg

Victory Square

Description:

The square is designed and built as the southern gate of St. Petersburg: it is the first significant architectural ensemble that motorists and air passengers meet at the entrance to St. Petersburg. To the square converge Moscow Avenue, Krasnoputilovskaya, Ordzhonikidze and Galstyan streets, as well as Moscow and Pulkovo highways.

The ensemble of Victory Square and the adjacent part of Moscow Avenue was created under the leadership of the architect S. B. Speransky. The ensemble consists of:

Memorial “To the Heroic Defenders of Leningrad” (sculptor M. K. Anikushin, architects V. A. Kamensky, S. B. Speransky) – Lenin Prize (1978)

Complex of residential buildings near Victory Square (a team of designers led by S. B. Speransky)

Hotel "Pulkovskaya" (authors of the project V. S. Volonsevich, Finnish architect I. Valjaka, head S. B. Speransky)

Moscow department store.
