Plutalova street
Description:
Plutalova Street is located in the Petrograd district of St. Petersburg. It runs from Chkalovsky Prospekt to Bolshoi Prospekt of the Petrograd side. The street was named after Lieutenant-General and Commandant of Shlisselburg Fortress Grigory Vasilyevich Plutalov. Almost until the beginning of the XX century, the whole area was built up with wooden buildings, between which there were gardens and wastelands. Modern multi-storey buildings appeared on Plutalov Street only from the middle of the XX century.
At the very beginning of the street is the main building of the plant "Meter". Until 1920, this building was the church of Alexius, a man of God at the branch of the House of Mercy. After the revolution, the church was closed. The building, designed by architect G.D. Grimm and the house of mercy were transferred to the factory "Artel Progress-Radio", which rebuilt and changed them beyond recognition. Today in the building of the plant "Meter" it is almost impossible to see the original church.
