Podjac bridge

ooh Big Podyacheskaya, city of St. Petersburg

Description:

The podyachny bridge is thrown over the Griboyedov Canal in the Admiralty District of St. Petersburg and connects the Kazan and Spassky Islands along Big Podyacheskaya Street with Lantern Lane. To the metro station "Sadovaya" 700 meters. The bridge is named after Big Podyacheskaya Street, as well as other place names - derived from small officials who settled once in this area of St. Petersburg.

In 1906 there was the Catherine Canal, through which a wooden bridge for pedestrian traffic was thrown. However, already in 1971-1972, the project of engineer Sobolev was created, on which a new bridge was built from reinforced concrete.

The bridge has an unusual architecture, at the four corners of it there are obelisks that once adorned the Alexander Iron Bridge, passing through the Vvedensky Canal, which flows into the Fontanka. A little higher upstream you can see the Ascension Bridge, and back (below) - the Lion Bridge.
