Sculptures of Klodt on Anichkov Bridge

Description:

St. Petersburg is considered the northern part of Russian Italy. There are a huge number of bridges in this city, one of them is the Anichkov Bridge over the Fontanka River. It is included in the list of its main attractions.

The bridge itself looks pretty normal. The "cherry on the cake" is considered a group of sculptures that convey the four stages of taming horses. Initially, sculptor P. K. Klodt created only two figures, but did not meet the deadline. Later it was decided to install horses on the west side of the bridge.

During the war, they were removed and buried in the garden of the Anichkov Palace. Despite the fact that the bridge itself was badly damaged during the years of bombing, the memorable sculptures were preserved in their original form. They still attract residents of the city and curious tourists with their uniqueness.
