Metro station "Lenin Square"

St. Petersburg, Russia

Description:

The station “Lenin Square” is located on the Kirov-Vyborg metro line of St. Petersburg, between “Vyborg” and “Chernyshevskaya”. The station was opened in 1958. It got its name due to the location of the first ground lobby near the square of the same name.

The first lobby is located in the building of the Finnish railway station. The station is decorated on the theme of the return of Vladimir Lenin in 1917 to Petrograd from Finland. On the wall of the cash register there is a mosaic panel depicting Lenin’s speech on April 3 in front of soldiers and workers of Petrograd. The lobby is decorated with original lamps.

The second exit to the city leads to the square on Botkinskaya Street. The lobby has a round shape, on the facade there are large windows-windows. The stations Lenin Square and Chernyshevskaya have the highest escalators in the world: with an ascent of 65.8 meters, a length of an inclined part of 131.6 meters, 755 steps and loops of each handrail of 290 meters.

"Lenin Square" is a pylon station deep (71 meters) laying. It is worth noting that for a long period of time it connected all St. Petersburg railway stations with one metro line.
