Metro Station "Courage Square"

St. Petersburg, Russia

Description:

The station "Courage Square" is located on the Kirov-Vyborg metro line of St. Petersburg, between "Lesnaya" and "Polytechnic". The station was opened in 1975. It received its name from the area of the same name, where passengers exit from the ground lobby. Courage Square is a single-vaulted station of deep (about 67 meters) laying and one of the first of this type in the Soviet Union.

The design of the station is made on the theme of courage of the residents and defenders of the besieged Leningrad, since the Piskarevskoye memorial cemetery is located nearby. On the south end of the station there is an inscription glorifying the heroes who defended the city. On the opposite wall is a five-pointed steel star illuminated from the inside. Above the track areas there are original stylized lamps resembling the bowls of the Eternal Flame.
