Old Nicholas Bridge
Russia, St. Petersburg, Admiralty District, Kryukov Canal
Description:
Staro-Nikolsky Bridge, also known as Pereshivkin Bridge, is located in the Admiralty District in the city of St. Petersburg, connecting the Pokrovsky and Spassky Islands through the Kryukov Canal. The first bridge was built in 1717, when the Kryukov Canal appeared, at that time it was a wooden crossing. At the end of XVIII, a new structure was built according to a standard project of bridges, it was built of wood, had three spans, the central part was a drawbridge. In 1842, instead of wooden railings, forged lattice railings were installed, which adorn the Pereshivkin Bridge to our time.
At the beginning of the XX century, it was necessary to reconstruct the bridge in order to expand it and conduct tracks for the tram, and subsequently various repairs were carried out.
The other seven bridges of the northern capital are visible from the Staro-Nikolsky Bridge, which makes it popular for walks.
