Old Believer bridge

Distant Lane, St. Petersburg, Russia

Description:

The Old Believer Bridge is located in St. Petersburg and crosses the Volkovka River in the Rasstanny Lane area. The bridge appeared here in 1829, and from 1848 to 1862 was called German because of the Lutheran cemetery nearby. The new railway bridge was built in 1970 according to the plan of engineer Sobolev and architect Noskov. The name of the bridge acquired due to the fact that in 1777 an Old Believer cemetery appeared in the village, and later an Old Believer almshouse appeared here. The Old Believer bridge is 15.9 meters long and 27 meters wide.

In 1969-1970, instead of the old wooden bridge, a new single-span railway bridge was built. Its design is framed, and the project belongs to the engineer L. N. Sobolev and architect L. A. Noskov. The device of the bridge on the right is a granite wall of the embankment, and on the left the stand is made of concrete and has a facing of granite slabs. The railings are metal with a simple pattern.
